Safety National Launches Tool to Help Reduce the Risk of Collisions for Emergency Responders

Safety National Casualty is launching a new program for policyholders called Safety: Emergency Responder Vehicle Education (S:ERVE). This online driver simulation and curriculum was created to educate law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and other emergency responders to drive at their safest in emergency response scenarios in an effort to reduce collision rates. S:ERVE will be provided as a resource through Safety National's MAP Client Services program. This resource will be provided at no additional cost to policyholders, on a limited basis.

"As a leading provider of excess workers' compensation solutions, Safety National serves as an industry advocate for injury prevention," said David Snodgrass, Director of Risk Control Services at Safety National. "We believe that adding S:ERVE to our suite of prevention products and services provides a unique and valuable tool directed towards the emerging needs of our public entity policyholders."

The online simulator guides users through a series of situations in which decision making is key. Users prioritize their vehicle handling and emergency task activities while experiencing situations related to typical emergency response or pursuit operations. The interactive functionality operates to support a higher learning retention rate than traditional classroom environments.

S:ERVE meets the standards established by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA). Studies report that the use of this product resulted in a 67% decrease in errors per intersection and a 25% reduction in overall accident rates.

Safety National's MAP Client Services program offers various resources to help policyholders improve their workers' compensation management, analysis and prevention efforts. All services and resources provided through this platform are designed to improve injury prevention and claim cost containment and, typically, are provided complimentary to the policyholder. S:ERVE will become an offering through MAP Client Services in February 2012.
