Safety National Honored as a 2023 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace™

Safety National® announced today that the company was recognized as a 2023 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace™ by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

As a recipient of this award, Safety National was acknowledged for being among the employers leading the way in providing adoption and foster care benefits and recognizing the need for this life-changing support. Winners are selected based on financial reimbursement for adoptive costs, length of paid leave provided, and the percentage of employees made eligible to receive the adoption benefits.

“We are honored to be included on this list – especially during the first year of providing these enhanced benefits to our employees,” said Mark Wilhelm, Executive Chairman at Safety National. “We are constantly evaluating our benefit offerings to support the various needs of our employees and feel that adding paid adoption benefits was simply the right thing to do. This award helps to validate that our program structure is robust and should make a meaningful difference to those that will use our benefits to adopt a child.”

The 2023 list of winners includes a diverse group of organizations representing 22 industries. Safety National ranked #77 on the full list and third highest among the insurance carrier honorees.

“Safety National is committed to providing equitable and inclusive benefit offerings to our employees,” said Angela Schaefer, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “Though we have offered paid parental leave for adoptive parents for several years, traditional benefits do not cover expenditures associated with adoption such as court costs, home study fees, and travel expenses. Utilizing the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s Employer Toolkit as a guide, we enhanced our existing program to include financial support for qualified adoption expenses.”

According to Rita Soronen, President and CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, “The Foundation is thrilled to see a growing number of organizations offering robust benefits to employees who open their hearts and homes as foster and adoptive parents. According to research conducted by The Harris Poll on the Foundation’s behalf, 68% of Americans say that having paid leave and other adoption benefits in the workplace impact their decision to adopt. When organizations offer benefits and join the Foundation in raising awareness of their importance to inspire others, we are one step closer to ensuring that every child has a permanent home and a loving family.”
