LARGE CASUALTY DEPARTMENT
Responsible for underwriting and servicing of Large Casualty accounts for assigned territory. Underwriting accountability includes new business production, renewal retention, account servicing and broker/insured relationships that lead to underwriting profitability and revenue growth within the assigned underwriting territory.

Creates and delivers a compelling business case for agents/brokers to place multi-line large deductible accounts with SNCC; champions our well established multi-line underwriting capability and captures the attention of the producer community
Underwrites new and renewal multi-line large deductible accounts, for assigned underwriting territory. Reviews all necessary underwriting information including such items as application, loss control reports, annual financial statements, product brochures, loss experience and claim files to determine acceptability of account. Accepts risks on behalf of SNCC that meet underwriting requirements and declines those risks which are not acceptable based on established underwriting standards, policies and treaties.
Evaluates new and renewal accounts to determine the proper aggregate attachment and limit, retention level and premium. The evaluation process includes loss trending and development, analysis of large loss history and subsequent determination of a premium which is commensurate with the exposures presented. Determines viability of placing reinsurance where necessary
Discusses account analysis and recommendations with AVP, VP or SVP of the Large Casualty Underwriting Group and acts within delegated underwriting authority levels
Presents clear and timely professional communications internally and externally via phone; e-mail; written correspondence; face to face meetings
Works closely with Actuarial Unit to determine appropriate pricing approaches on an individual risk basis
Works closely with Legal Department regarding contracts/agreements, governmental regulation and compliance issues; recommends manuscript endorsement wording as necessary
Works closely with Claims Department to ensure effective delivery of the claims function and is actively involved in the assessment of Third Party Administrators, both existing and prospective
Works closely and collaborates with the Business Development Department in order to maximize territorial presence and broker penetration, driving highly engaged and productive relationships that lead to profitable written premium growth
Works closely with the Excess Workers Compensation unit to coordinate cross sell opportunities and to present a unified underwriting approach at the individual account level
Completes required underwriting documentation and file management
Conducts regularly scheduled producer and client meetings, acting as the local face of the SNCC Large Casualty Group; identifies targeted accounts and develops a sizeable pipeline of upcoming opportunities; drives a sufficient number of opportunities to achieve required financial objectives; achieves targeted metrics including submission flow, hit ratio and yield ratio
Evaluates existing agency and broker relationships and makes recommendations in terms of seeking and establishing new agency and brokerage relationships
Represents SNCC at various conventions and seminars at the direction of SNCC Management
Provides advice and counsel to other underwriters; may be involved in training and supervision of underwriting staff
Sales and Sales Management – effective agency relationship skills; proven track record of targeting and executing on opportunities for profitable growth; ability to transfer those competencies to other SNCC employees
Technical Skills – possesses the necessary thought processes to appropriately understand and analyze account opportunities, structuring quoted programs in an optimal way to secure the business while positioning SNCC for sustainable long term profitability
Relationship Building and Customer Service – works across all segments of SNCC and the brokerage community to effectively deliver financial results; embraces the opportunity to present quotes to producers and insured’s, emphasizing the SNCC value proposition
Negotiating Skills – able to win concessions and drive favorable outcomes for SNCC while safeguarding relationships in the process; builds trust and commitment
Teamwork – develops and maintains strong working relationships internally and externally; fosters a team environment by demonstrating leadership and becoming a trusted advisor
Minimum BA/BS or equivalent with large deductible/national account underwriting and sales experience; prefer minimum 7 years of production underwriting experience
A record of consistently high performance and achievement over career span is desired
A demonstrated track record of success in a field underwriting production environment, accompanied by strong local market knowledge and broker relationships, is critical
Leadership capabilities, superior organizational skills, communication, coaching and mentoring skills are highly desired
Business acumen, including the ability to win using data, is critical
CPCU designation a plus
